A Parisian story in a single sandwich

On the boulevards of Paris, in the early 20th century, small cafés served workers and artists the same dish – a golden, toasted ham and cheese sandwich. One day, a waiter, instead of the classic version, topped it with a fried egg. Someone joked it looked like a lady's hat – and so, quite by accident, the Croque Madame was born, one of the most iconic sandwiches in French cuisine.

This dish has always been good bread. In France, brioche – a soft, buttery loaf – has been baked for generations with the same care as the finest wine. It's the bread that makes or breaks a Croque Madame: without the right loaf, the rest simply doesn't matter.

To mark World Bread Day, we have created our own signature take on this classic – paying tribute both to Parisian tradition and to the craft of good baking.
